Me, Myself & I: A Dysfunctional Yet Delightful Trio

By Robin Unruh, LCSW, LCAC, SAP, and Fellow Human

You ever look in the mirror and think,“Wow… is that me or did a raccoon crawl out of a laundry basket and learn how to file taxes?”

Just me? Cool.

Anyway—let’s talk about self-acceptance. It sounds so gentle and wholesome, like something you’d hear in a guided meditation. But in reality? It’s more like hugging a cactus while juggling your to-do list and dodging burnout. 🪴🔥

At Change Pointe, we know growth can be serious—but it doesn’t have to be boring. So let’s laugh a little while we unpack this beautiful chaos called being yourself.

1. You Are Not a Pinterest Board

You’re not a perfectly filtered grid of inspirational quotes and hand-poured matcha lattes. You’re a glorious mix of joy, anxiety, strong opinions, half-eaten snacks, and probably at least one pair of mystery socks.That. Is. The. Magic. Nobody's thriving every day—and that’s OK.

2. Your Quirks Aren’t Flaws—They’re Features

Talk to yourself in weird voices when you're stressed? Avoid cucumbers like they’re emotionally toxic? Have an encyclopedic knowledge of 90s theme songs? Perfect. At Change Pointe, we believe the quirks you carry often tell the story of your survival and your strength. Keep 'em.

3. Perfection Is Boring (and Honestly, Exhausting)

Trying to be perfect is like baking cookies without sugar: looks okay, tastes sad. You’re going to forget the name of that one person you see every week. You’re going to rewash laundry three times because you forgot it in the washer. And that doesn’t make you broken—it makes you human.

4. Talk to Yourself Like a Friend (Not a Frenemy)

Would you say, “Ugh, you’re such a disaster. No one likes you” to your best friend? No? Then don’t say it to yourself. We encourage everyone—clients, colleagues, fellow raccoon-humans—to practice kind self-talk. (Bonus points if you use your therapy voice.)

5. Celebrate the Weird Wins

Brushed your hair today? Victory.Didn’t cry in the cereal aisle? Gold star.Remembered your login without resetting it? Call the news. The little things matter—especially when you’re doing big emotional work. We see you.

🌀 Final Thought from Change Pointe:

Self-acceptance isn’t a finish line. It’s more like a weird little sidekick—sometimes annoying, sometimes wise, always around when you least expect it. Keep showing up. Keep being you.

Because you, just as you are—messy, magical, moody, and magnificent—are absolutely enough.

💙 Need a space to rediscover yourself (and maybe laugh along the way)?
